Why I Got Involved

I became an intern for Dave Cortese (whose running for the California Senate) because he is a strong candidate that is always advocating for climate action. I also wanted to become more involved in my community.

Phone-banking and helping set up bags for canvassing.

What did I learn

From this amazing experience, I learned how to become more involved in my community that involves in directly advocating for climate change policies. I also learned the process of phone-banking and how to provide outreach to unite people to work for the same goal. We should fight for what we believe in- mine is climate justice. I believe Dave Cortese will help advocate for what’s right in climate action.

Mr.Cortese sent me this letter after the successful election.

My Contribution

While I was an intern for Dave Cortese, I phonebanked, textbanked, canvassed, set up materials, and overall dedicated my time to reach out to people. Because of our strong team and our strong initiative, our action as a group helped Mr. Cortese win the primaries by a landslide. This is our great teamwork.

What Can Be Improved

While we made big progress, there were things that needed improved. First, not a lot of people have time in their day to listen to our message, so we have to adjust the length based on the audience we are faced with. Sometimes, this is not successful however, and in other cases, there will be people that hang up on you. Secondly, some people don’t have phones, or their phones don’t work so we need other ways to get our message delivered. Last but not least, there will be people that don’t want to listen to you, so we should have another way to reach out to those people. Overall, there will be challenges, but getting over them is what makes your impactful.
