I just received the notice that I got into the Santa Clara County Youth Advisory Group. Here is their description:

Santa Clara County is seeking to expand mental health support in schools with the goals of reducing barriers to youth in need of support; decreasing stigma around mental health; and focusing on prevention and early intervention. This is a joint effort of the Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE) and the Santa Clara County Behavioral Health Services Department (BHSD). A Youth Advisory Group (YAG) will be established to ensure that the youth voice is included to provide relevant and effective services on school campuses.

After applying and getting interviewed, I received the news that not only did they accept me into the Youth Advisory Group, they also offered me the position of Co-lead of the YAG Leadership Team on the Community Engagement Committee, which I gladly accepted. Here is what they said about my application:

“We believe your experience with YAPA kids and working with school administrators to create a survey for student mental health responses makes you not only well-suited, but necessary to help lead this committee.”

I am so excited to join this group, and I can’t wait to make an impact on the community. I will try my best to make sure everyone is fairly represented, and to address the issue of mental health in our schools.
