School Swim Season 2020–2021
This year has been crazy. As most of you know (and have experienced), this entire school year was virtual; all of our classes, meetings, and events were conducted online.
Fortunately, our school district allowed for school sports to continue. Although the swim team was significantly smaller than the previous year’s, it actually helped us get a lot closer, and I gratefully established many connections with everyone on our team.
Like last year, I am on the varsity team, and I mainly competed in free-style., breaststroke, and sprints. However, due to a smaller team, I had to step up and fill some long distance and IMer’s shoes. As a result, I swam a variety of events, from 500 meters freestyle to 200 IM to 100 free-style.
You can check one of my 500 meters freestyle here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YIerxgroxG4
I learned a lot from this year’s swim team. I learned to appreciate having a smaller team, and I learned how to build connections with all sorts of people. I really enjoy swimming and swam competitively at DACA up until the beginning of high school, where I went on and joined our school team. Sports have always been a way for me to relax my mind and I really appreciate my school board for allowing sports to continue.
